If you are considering welcoming a standard poodle into your home, you are ready to have a magnificent companion join your family. Please let us know if you would like to discuss any details of puppy and adult companionship.
Poodles are, in general, good house dogs. They can be curious, and as puppies they should be kept from hazardous materials (just as you would with a human child). As adults, some poodles find certain items irresistible; you will learn these for your particular poodle’s personality.
A large cost for many poodle owners is grooming. This is obviously a personal preference, but the easiest is to maintain the coat in a “puppy” cut, one that requires a simple clip and cleaning. Poodles that love the water are much easier to clean up after their romp if they are in a “puppy” cut!
Another cost for poodle owners is veterinary care. You should be prepared for many years of maintenance care with your veterinarian; we have found it is useful to have a vet with a history of poodle care.
Finally, there is the cost of feeding. We have found that each poodle has particular needs and wants; however, each poodle should be given adequate nutrition and plenty of fresh water.
